I attend Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. I am studying the Human Dimensions of Forestry and will be graduating with a BS in May 2014. Your Scholarship Committee met on August 28 to review applications and awarded a total of eight scholarships. Now we need your help. In our continuing effort to help the families of our CCTA members, it is critical that we raise funds to keep this worthy program alive. My journey for higher education began at Fullerton College, where I spent two years completing a majority of my general education classes. My scholarship went towards funding my college education for my freshman year at San Diego State University. I decided to major in civil engineering, because I enjoy and excel in mathematics and I think that it would be exciting and interesting to design and build beautiful buildings. Read more

When I was asked to write a “Where Are They Now” article for the CCTA magazine, I started reflecting on my journey through higher education. It has been quite an adventure in which I have learned a lot about my future career as well as learned about what it is like to be a responsible adult.
When I entered college in the fall of 2006 I enrolled at San Jose State University (SJSU), but I was not sure how I was going to pay for college. Thanks to scholarships, such as the ones that CCTA generously awarded, I was able to finance my education. These scholarships allowed me to take out minimal student loans and work a reasonable amount so that my focus could remain primarily on my studies. As I am finishing my graduate school career, I have realized exactly how precious the scholarship money was. After almost 12 months, and I won’t say how much I have accrued in student loans, I realize how lucky I was to be awarded scholarships during my undergraduate education. Read more

Hello CCTA! My name is Teddi Nichols and I have been a CCTA scholarship recipient for three years. Because my dad, Doug Nichols, is a member of CCTA, I was able to apply for the scholarships. I received my first scholarship as a senior at Santa Paula High School in 2009 and have received one every year since.
After high school, I attended Ventura College, a community college about fifteen minutes away from my home. I knew as a senior in high school that I wanted to attend university at some point but figured out that in the long run community college was the best way to go financially. In the two years that I was at Ventura College, I completed the general education curriculum. Read more
Despite the downturn in our construction trucking industry (catchy name – right?), our CDTOA members once again came through for our college-bound children and grandchildren and made our latest fundraiser another success.
At the time our San Diego Board Meeting was held, the office had only received $2,475 from the sale of 99 tickets. With the purchase of a one thousand dollar gift card and printing raffle tickets this fundraiser could have had dismal results. However, because many (such as myself) are procrastinators, another $2,415 in tickets and silent auction bids was raised at this meeting. Read more
